Erode is often referred to as the “turmeric city” due to its significant role in turmeric cultivation and trade. The region’s climate and soil conditions are particularly favorable for growing this spice, leading to the cultivation of turmeric across more than 14,533 hectares.
Erode is renowned for its high-quality turmeric, especially the “Erode turmeric,” which is characterized by its vibrant color and strong aroma. The city hosts numerous turmeric processing units, where the harvested rhizomes are cleaned, boiled, dried, and ground into powder.
The second most important crop is Cholam which is cultivated in more than 11,240 hectors of land.
